Pass Plus
Only £130! It'll save you more on your insurance!
What is it?
- It's six hours after you pass your test
- It's intended to reduce accidents amongst new drivers
- by "accelerating the process of gaining experience".
- which means, getting some practice in quickly, with an expert there to advise you.
What's involved?
- Driving in town traffic - there's plenty of it!
- Driving in bad weather - if we can find any in our gloriously sunny country
- Driving in the country - A-roads, B-roads and tiny little back roads
- Driving at night - more difficult in summer, but at least we discuss the issues
- Driving on dual carriageways - in town and between towns. (The EP doesn't really count.)
- Driving on motorways - do it first with an expert beside you
How's it arranged?
Three possibilities
- Six separate hours - not really a good idea: that's just more driving lessons
- Three two-hour or two three-hour blocks - much more fun. Drive into Wolverhampton or Birmingham, up the M6, enjoy a jaunt into the Shropshire Hills
- Best of all, the whole course in one six-hour session. This makes it possible to go far afield - say up the M6, into Derbyshire, skirt south Manchester, and back through rural Cheshire and Shropshire.Where would you like to go?
Why bother?
- Save quite a lot on your insurance!
- See a list of participating insurance companies here.
- Typically, the deal is that you go straight to one year's no-claim bonus - perhaps 30-35% in the first year. This offer is for the new driver insuring their own car (not for being insured on parent's car for example), but remains valid for two years. You will easily recover the cost of the course! One of my pupils recently saved £400 on the cost of insuring a perfectly ordinary Fiesta!
- And anyway, isn't anything that makes you less likely to have an accident a Good Thing?
