The Peugeot 107An environmentally-friendly carThe Peugeot 107, a joint project with the Toyota Aygo and the Citroen C1, is small and light. It is powered by a 1-litre 3-cylinder engine which is surprisingly flexible and lively. These features make it an idea vehicle for learners. My car has been converted to run on Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG). This is less polluting than petrol or diesel, as described below. My aim is to teach you to drive in a vehicle which minimises the impact of driving on the environment. LP GAS emissions(based on tests undertaken at the Millbrook testing centre) Compared to petrol
Compared to diesel
Government opinionDepartment of Health statistics suggest that particulates are responsible for several thousand deaths each year and many thousand of cases of illness and reduced activity. Road transport is the largest single source for particulates and LP Gas can reduce these emissions by 90% compared to diesel. The other pollutant highlighted by the governments 'Local Air Quality Strategy' report as causing significant problems and requiring further measures to meet the set targets are Oxides of Nitrogen. As shown above, using LP Gas can make substantial reductions in Oxides of Nitrogen emissions. Noise is another pollutant causing increased concern, as stated in the governments 'New Deal For Transport' White Paper. LP Gas engines are 50% quieter than diesel. Comparing LPG with other fuelsSee the table below, which compares carbon dioxide emissions from LPG compared with other fuels:
